An already-adopted dog often waits weeks, sometimes months, for want of someone to accompany it on a flight. It is the bottleneck of international rescue.

The principle: you are already travelling on a given route. The organization books the dog on your flight, prepares all its documents and hands it over at the departure airport. Someone picks it up on arrival. You pay nothing and you don't keep the dog. Depending on the airline, an animal registered under a passenger's name travels in cabin or in hold, with size, crate and temperature rules that vary.
